CALYPSO LAWRENCE
Calypso, founder of children's clothing shopping destination Baboushkini began her career working in the fashion and publishing industries. Living in London Calypso found that shopping for children was difficult and not straightforward. Baboushkini holds a carefully curated edit of children's clothing from all over the world. Today she shares her advice for starting a business from scratch, plus her most-wanted knitwear.
Talk us through your everyday.
My everyday… breakfast with the children and get them both ready for the day, nursery drop off, come straight home and to my office and I spend most of the day at my desk working. Unless I’m meeting clients or brands I work with for lunch or meetings, I’d meet them centrally in London and talk through collections and capsules. That usually wraps up by 6pm so I can spend time with my children before they go to bed.
What is your best advice for anyone wanting to start a business?
Don’t be a perfectionist. It will stand in the way of lift off and progress, especially at the beginning.

When does sweater season start for you?
September, whether it’s cold enough or not. I love jumpers and I think they are totally representative of the back to school feeling and I always get excited by that feeling.
How would you perfect mother and baby dressing?
I think that completely matching head to toe can be a bit much, it can be nice to pick out delicate details like a little print, - if a little girl's dress is printed, then maybe the mother’s collar is printed, or they could both be wearing a matching jumper with slightly different separates. Stick to small details!
